Australia's beef industry could, according to this story, be in for another
export boost if a suspected case of mad cow disease in the United States turns
out to be positive, but the industry is playing down the situation and says
there are no winners when a case of the disease is confirmed.
Cattle Council of Australia acting executive director Michael Hartmann was cited
as saying producers will not be wishing more misery on American farmers, adding,
"Despite the fact that we've been able to get some short-term gain out of their
loss, nobody in the world wins out of BSE. Our gains have been probably more
short-term than anything and it's just a wait and see game."
