EDUCATOR WORKSHOPS

Food, Land and People (FLP)

Selected Minnesota Cattlewomen are certified facilitators for the Food, Land and People program; and will conduct six eight-hour workshops for teachers and educators upon request. Project FLP is a national educational organization designed to provide educators

with high quality, balanced and easily-integrated classroom

materials that focus on the complexity and interdependence of

agricultural, environmental, economic and cultural issues.

The centerpiece of the FLP program is a 950 page “Resources for Learning”, featuring 55 lessons that focus on agriculture, natural resources, culture and the environment for grades preK-12. Lessons span curriculum areas of science, mathematics, social studies (geography, history, civics, and economics), health and nutrition, language arts (reading, writing and drama), technology and

consumer science. Factual, science-based information is provided in student-centered activities to develop critical thinking skills, Twenty lessons have been translated into Spanish for use in bilingual education program and Spanish language classes. Lessons have been developed by educators, and

subjected to a rigorous review process.

They are objective, technically accurate and independent of any special interests or viewpoints.

In Minnesota this program is conducted in cooperation with Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom and the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences.
